Echocardiography

Echocardiography. An echocardiogram is an ultrasound image of the heart. This is a noninvasive and commonly ordered study of the heart. It allows the doctor to assess the heart’s overall and regional function as well as chamber size and function. It allows us to evaluate the heart valves for any abnormalities. The test is commonly used to evaluate for heart murmurs detected on physical examination. It is also useful in determining the heart’s strength and an important variable called the Ejection Fraction. The test requires no special preparation although a physician’s prescription is required. We are an ICAEL accredited echocardiography laboratory.

On occasion, an exercise echocardiogram may be indicated. This is an echocardiogram combined with a traditional stress test. This allows the physician to assess for exercise-induced abnormalities such as blocked arteries or even disorders of the heart values. Unlike a nuclear stress test, this test involves no intravenous injection of nuclear isotopes
